Different Is Better

Our trips are different than most, for several reasons

BREAKING NEWS: Galapagos Travel now has a sister agency: Cultural & Natural Heritage Tours. Both under a common leadership team. Same personalized service - but even more experience to help you plan your trip of a lifetime. Click here for all the details.

Slower Paced, Richer Experience

It is the fate of most voyagers, no sooner to discover what is most interesting in any locality than they are hurried from it...
— Charles Darwin, 1845

Tours for those that like to linger

The tours are paced to the interests of those who like to take their time, to soak in the ambiance, to develop a sense of place - perfect for natural history enthusiasts and photographers. Anyone wanting more time on shore will experience value and enjoyment from our trips.

  1. Most important is that we allow you to get the most out of a once-in-a-lifetime adventure travel experience. Our trips provide an in-depth orientation to the island's plants and animals, animal behavior, ecology, geology, and evolution beyond the scope of most vacation–oriented tours.

  2. While ships have been offering shorter and shorter itineraries over the years, spending as little as 4 days on board, we feel that 8 days on board is the minimum time necessary to be exposed to the fascinating diversity of landscapes and seascapes (both above and below the sea) and be assured of a representative viewing opportunity of the diverse plant and animal species. If you can spare the time, for maximum exposure and wildlife viewing opportunities, we recommend our 11 and 15 day natural history tours.

  3. Our 11 and 15 day trips enjoy the services of a 2nd naturalist guide for a rarely seen 8:1 guest to guide ratio (the regulations call for a maximum 16:1 ratio - which is what most other ships provide). The extra guide makes for a more intimate experience overall.

  4. Our naturalist guides organize interesting daily presentations on various aspects of Galapagos natural history.

  5. Our two daily island visits are longer than most tours. We also go on shore earlier in the day (as early as sunrise, and typically before 7am. vs. 8am for most other vessels), when wildlife is at its most active and lighting is best for photography and often linger on shore until close to sunset.

Longer Natural History Tours of the Galapagos Islands

Our trips are different. Our “Active Galapagos”, with 8 days on board, are designed for those wanting to enjoy longer snorkel outings, and hiking to the ends of the trails. Paddle boarding and kayaking is on the menu. Most of our “Natural History Workshops” spend 11 days on board, with a few departures spending 15 days on the ship. These are the longest uninterrupted expedition cruises available in Galapagos.

About

Experience matters...

Galapagos Travel has been specializing in the Galápagos islands, and offering our unique in-depth educationally-oriented programs there since 1990. Our front-office team consists of two dedicated professionals who lived in Galapagos, working at the Darwin Station for a combined 12 years, and a third who is a native, certified Galapagos Naturalist Guide, based in Puerto Ayora, Galapagos. That is a lot of direct, hands-on experience working for you. We are confident that few travel companies have such a depth of experience in, and first-hand knowledge of the islands. In short, we’re in an excellent position to make sure this will be the trip of a lifetime you have been dreaming of.
